The Cooking Experience:
In my latest book, the heroine ate a breakfast burger in the cafeteria, and I was curious to find out exactly what a breakfast burger was. When I looked up an image, I recognized the type of burger immediately—I just had never known what it was called. Excited to try one for myself, I went to my local grocery store, picked up the ingredients, and got to work.
First, I preheated my air fryer to 400 degrees. Once it was hot, I cooked the beef patty for 5 minutes. While the patty cooked, I mixed mayonnaise and blackberry jelly together and spread the mixture on the top bun. Then, I added onions and lettuce over the spread.
After 5 minutes, I flipped the patty and cooked it for another 5 minutes. While it cooked, I set my stovetop to medium heat and added oil to the pan. Most stovetops may only need low-medium heat, but mine does not get as hot as an average stovetop.
When the second 5 minutes were up, I added a slice of turkey bologna to the air fryer and placed a slice of Gouda cheese on top of the beef patty. I cooked both for 2 more minutes. At the same time, I cracked two eggs into opposite sides of the pan, covered it, and cooked them for 3 minutes.
Once the air fryer was finished, I placed the cheese-covered beef patty on the bottom bun and layered the bologna on top. Less than a minute later, the eggs were ready, so I added them to the burger and carefully placed the top bun over everything.
To make it a complete breakfast, I served the burger with 2 hash brown patties and a glass of milk. As you can probably tell from the photo, it was a very messy burger—I had to eat it with a fork and knife. It was also delicious, and I was completely full by the time I finished. The next time I make one, I will definitely cut it in half and share it.
