The Cooking Experience:
Get ready for a rollercoaster ride with this article! For those who have already checked out the recipe linked above, it’s evident that my cake didn’t turn out as planned. Let this unfortunate cake serve as a testament to why I usually prefer to either buy cakes directly from the bakery or stick to boxed mixes.
For the record, I followed the instructions as closely as I could. Unfortunately, I didn’t have espresso powder, so I had to skip step 4 entirely. I also realized that my baking pans were not the same size as those specified in the recipe, which meant I needed to adjust my cooking time. In hindsight, I wish I had opted for a single pan instead of using two to bake my cake.
I did manage to follow the first three steps perfectly and genuinely believed that, despite missing the espresso powder and using different pan sizes, my cake would turn out just fine. How wrong I was! I ended up baking my cake for a total of 40 minutes, but when I pulled them from the oven and attempted to separate them from the pans, they crumbled completely. I ended up mashing the two pieces back together, which is why my cake looks a bit shorter than intended.
As for the chocolate ganache, I followed the steps to the letter, yet it turned out quite runny. In a moment of desperation, I turned to Google for solutions and found an article suggesting the addition of powdered sugar. Ultimately, I added two cups of powdered sugar to achieve the desired thickness.
After that, I assembled my poor cake and let it rest for a bit before tasting it. Despite the chaotic baking experience, I was pleasantly surprised that my cake actually tasted good! While I would have preferred using milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate for the ganache, topping it with ice cream turned it into a delightful treat.
