Ingredients:
2 Sirloin Steaks at least 1 inch thick
2 tsp Olive Oil
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Pepper
4 Tbsp Compound Butter
This was my first attempt at cooking a steak, so I sought out a recipe that would be straightforward and easy to follow. Fortunately, I found a fantastic beginner-friendly recipe. I began my preparations the evening before by dry brining the steaks. I patted them dry with paper towels and rubbed salt into the meat, then returned them to the fridge for 22 hours.
The next evening, I preheated my oven to 375°F and heated a skillet on high heat. While both were warming up, I took the steak out of the fridge, patted it dry with paper towels, and coated it with olive oil, seasoning it generously with pepper. I then placed the steaks onto the hot skillet, searing them for 2 minutes on each side.
After searing, the oven was ready, so I transferred the skillet with the steaks to the middle rack and cooked them for 15 minutes. I prefer my steak well done, and this time was just right to achieve that. I recommend adjusting the cooking time based on your personal preference.
Once cooked, I placed the steaks on a serving plate with room temperature butter, adding a dollop of butter on top as well. I allowed the steaks to rest in the butter for 10 minutes before serving them alongside steamed broccoli and French fries.
While I may not be the biggest fan of using salt and pepper, I aimed to follow this recipe as closely as possible. The steak turned out juicy and delicious. However, moving forward, I plan to use only half the amount of salt recommended in the recipe for my steaks. This adjustment will make them just right for my taste.
