The Crafting Experience:

I was so excited to try this particular craft, even though Macbeth was not my first choice for a project like this. I had seen many crafters bedazzle book covers, and I knew it was something I had to try. When Rose’s first official date with her beau was a trip to the theater to see Macbeth by William Shakespeare, it felt like the perfect opportunity to find out whether this was a craft I would want to do with other books.

I found bedazzling the title relaxing and easy. However, the author’s name was too small to work with, so I decided to cover it up—especially since it was positioned in the middle of the blood splatter, which was another simple area to embellish because of its size.

I did struggle with the dagger. It was such a small image that my first attempt to recreate the details with rhinestones did not turn out as I had hoped. I removed what I had done and started over with less detail, leaving the larger black area of the dagger free of rhinestones. Unfortunately, removing the original rhinestones left behind some glue residue, but I think the simplified design is much more visually appealing, even with the residue.

I plan to paint over the remaining glue with black paint in the future, but for now, I am happy with how the cover turned out. Next, I hope to collect a specific set of Jane Austen hardcover editions to rhinestone for my own personal library—books I can keep and cherish.
