The Crafting Experience:

I was thrilled after reading Angel of Ashes, as I have always wanted to learn how to create circlet crowns and flower crowns. Initially, I considered making a flower crown, but I ultimately decided to keep it simple and start with a circlet crown as my first project.

To begin, I cut three 50-inch pieces of wire using wire cutters. I bent each piece in half and took one of them to create a loop in the center with my round-nose pliers. Next, I wrapped the other two pieces of wire just below the loop of the first wire twice to secure them tightly.

Once I had all three wires connected, I took the two strands from the first wire and the separated strands from the second and third wires to braid them together, forming a long strand of braided wire. As I approached the end, I made a loop with one of the middle strands using the round-nose pliers and wrapped the other five strands just below that loop to ensure everything was secure. I then trimmed any excess wire with the wire cutters.

I created a chain of three round jump rings and attached each end of the chain to the loops on either side of the braided wire using flat-nose pliers. To complete my circlet crown, I connected a sun charm to the middle loop of the round jump ring chain with my flat-nose pliers.

This entire project took me just 45 minutes, and I absolutely love the final result. However, I must warn you—my arms and shoulders are quite sore from braiding the wires! I also recommend using a mannequin head to help shape the circlet properly for a comfortable fit, something I currently lack but plan to invest in soon.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this project and look forward to making more circlet crowns in the future, with the aspiration of eventually creating flower crowns as well just for fun!
