Believing this would be a quick and easy project, I decided to experiment a bit with this potion. I wanted the liquid to have a magical appearance, so I thought using mica powder instead of food coloring would do the trick. Additionally, I considered using a small amount of resin epoxy without the hardener, then adding water to the mixture. My hope was that this combination would prevent the powder from settling at the bottom, eliminating the need to shake the bottle for that potion-like effect.
It’s worth mentioning that while I excelled in Biology, I never took a Chemistry class. Had I done so, I might have remembered that different viscosities can prevent liquids from mixing, which was exactly the case here. I may have inadvertently discovered how to create a lava lamp instead of a magical potion.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t clean the vial I had used and had to make another trip to the store for a new glass vial. For my second attempt, I decided to stick with the mica powder but skip the resin. I filled the glass vial with water and added a small amount of blue-grey mica powder along with a touch of dark green mica powder. After stirring the mixture, I was thrilled to see it achieved the color I desired.
Next, I applied a layer of Mod Podge glue around the cork and pressed it back into the glass vial to dry, ensuring it wouldn’t come off and create a mess. Once the glue was dry, I cut a long piece of white ribbon and tied it around the mouth of the vial. I then slipped a heart and lock charm onto the ribbon, securing it with a double knot before finishing it off with a bow.
The end result is an adorable glass vial that resembles a magical love potion.
