A REBEL PIXIE PRINCESS. A DEADLY COMPETITION BETWEEN FIVE FAERIE CLANS. WILL SHE WIN THE CROWN OR DIE TRYING?
Pixie pirate Quinn may be an outlaw, wanted by five faerie clans, but she prefers it that way. All she wants is to finally become a captain and bury her true identity beneath the rolling waves. But when the sudden death of her twin brother causes her to plot a vengeful heist, a shocking betrayal unmasks her for who she really is--- her people's last living heir.
Her only hope of escaping certain death for her crimes is taking her brother's place in the Ethodine: a dangerous competition for the faerie crown. In a series of death-defying trials, Quinn faces off with the heirs of four rival clans:
A flirtatious merman.
A mute beast tamer.
A half-blind artist.
And a pompous princess.
But as dark secrets unravel and an ancient prophecy entwines their fates, rivals must become allies before there's no world left to rule.
This book was even better than I expected. The main character, Quinn, is a tough cookie who is difficult to crack, but once she opens up, she proves to be one of the most loyal and dependable characters in the story. The flirtatious merman is honorable, charming, and a true gentleman—an easy character to love and root for as Quinn’s love interest.
The mute beast tamer has a heart of gold, making her the perfect best friend, while the half-blind artist is insightful and an enthusiastic conspiracy theorist who becomes Quinn’s ideal partner in crime. And then there is the pompous princess. Though she begins the story as self-absorbed and, frankly, a bit of a pain, she grows into the most selfless of the five heirs by the end, earning a place in the hearts of anyone who picks up this series.
The rival clans are all distinct, and each kingdom is a fascinating place to explore. The story is packed with exciting twists and turns—I honestly feel as though I have whiplash, especially after that ending. Nothing is as it seems in this installment, and just when you think you have everything figured out, another revelation changes everything for the characters and the roles they are trying to fulfill for their clans and the crown.
I still have so many questions, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment in the series. So far, this is my favorite book of the year, and it will take a truly incredible book to knock it out of first place.
