But there are strange things happening, dark forces are at work that are looking to sew destruction, and a mystery that is begging to be solved. Is Anna a human? An Original? Or something else entirely... With the fate of all humankind hanging in the balance, Anna is forced to confront her own fears and become more than she ever thought she could be.
Once again, I am thrilled to have discovered another academy-themed series—one of my favorite settings in fiction. Anna believes she is human... or at least she always has, until a mysterious book chooses her and she is forced to embrace her newfound powers at Grimm Academy.
Filled with vampires, fae, and shifters, Grimm Academy is unlike any school Anna has ever known. After growling at the newest professor, Jericho Bane, she is placed in the shifter section. The first book follows Anna as she discovers who she truly is and what that revelation means not only for her, but for all of mankind.
Her training with Professor Bane often feels pointless, especially since he seems determined to push every one of her buttons. Naturally, it is no surprise that he becomes her love interest. As Anna and two fellow student outcasts form their own little Scooby gang, they do everything they can to help her fight the evil forces closing in around them.
Just when you think everyone might live happily ever after, the author delivers a disclaimer before the final chapter that turns everything upside down. As if to taunt readers, Lyra Forager leaves us with a truly heartbreaking cliffhanger. The final chapter is definitely not for the faint of heart.
Now, all I can think about is what the second book has in store. Will that devastating final moment remain unchanged, or will Lyra Forager pull the dagger from our hearts and give us the happy ending we will all be hoping for by the end of the series?
