This year, I'm in this line-up. But unlike the others, I want to be taken. Correction, I need to be taken, for my sister's sake. It's my fault she was chosen during the last offering, and I have to find out if she's alive.
I thought I was ready, but nothing could have prepared me for the four monsters who claim me: a vampire, wolf shifter, demon, and siren. They're terrifying, powerful, and infuriatingly arrogant... and now these alphas are fixated on me.
Turns out, finding my sister is going to be harder than I thought. Now that I'm in their world, the monsters think that I'll become one of them. I'm in their monster trials, and they're going to play with me until I turn.
These alphas think it'll be easy to break me, but they picked the wrong girl. Because I'm already a monster. They just don't know it yet.
What an exhilarating tale! The heroine, Raine, is delightfully sarcastic, engaging in sharp-witted banter with the four monsters tasked with transforming twelve women into creatures of the night. The first of these monsters, Locke the vampire, matches Raine's quick wit with a dark flirtation that left me weak in the knees.
Next up is Asher, the demon, who brings a charming humor to every scene he graces. His playful antics had me giggling, even as Raine relentlessly tries to attack him and his companions. Then there's Darian, the siren, who reveals a softer side compared to the others. He’s the first—and, frankly, the only one—to call Raine by her name during the challenges designed to turn the women into monsters.
Last but certainly not least is Kade, the wolf shifter. With his dark and brooding demeanor, Raine finds herself relating to Kade and the guilt he carries. Normally, I’m not a fan of "why choose" tropes, as I believe in the idea of one true love. However, even I struggle to pick a favorite among these four captivating characters. Right now, I’m rooting for Kade and Raine, but I have to admit that Asher and Darian’s personalities are equally enticing for my book crush.
This unique plot is incredibly engaging, making it hard to put the book down. I’m eager to continue this series to uncover what type of monster Raine ends up being, what caused the "bond" she shares all four monsters, what happened to her sister Cara, and what kind of monster Cara had become. I can’t wait to see what new trials the boys devise to push Raine toward her transformation!
