The first book in this series establishes a delightful and engaging tone that resonates well with high school readers. It beautifully captures the nostalgia of first love, making for a charming and relatable read. The characters are wonderfully crafted, and I found myself particularly drawn to the side characters who accompany Jayce and Ellie throughout their journey. Their reactions to the young couple's puppy love felt genuine and relatable, especially as I watch my own nieces navigate their first crushes.
The quest itself strikes a perfect balance of challenges and dangers that are appropriate for the characters' ages, offering a refreshing contrast to the extreme chaos often seen in other series. This adds a layer of realism to the experiences of teenagers, making it more believable.
The author excels in creating a cute, charming, and realistic story, even within a world infused with magic. I did find myself chuckling and rolling my eyes at the two lovebirds during their cheesy, teenage moments, but this only enhances the authenticity of their age and the tumultuous emotions that come with it.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book for high school libraries and to anyone seeking a sweet, spice-free story. I eagerly anticipate the next installment in this delightful series.
