FATE DOESN'T EXIST. NOT FOR ME. ANYWAY

I've survived as a Sigma for years. Relying on myself through my job as an EMT helping those who can't help themselves.

Something my pack never afforded me, even when they knew the cruelty of our Alpha.

But when I receive word that shifters are unaccounted for, and my best friend is one of the missing?

I HAVE TO GO BACK.

I expected to face some of my demons at the pack gathering, but I didn't expect the rival Alpha to stare at me like that. I didn't expect him to know my name, and I definitely didn't anticipate him showing up at my room after dark.

What could Rowan Steele want with someone like me? Especially when my Alpha already turned on him once, and Nathan Black wouldn't think twice at ripping out Rowan's throat for touching property that wasn't his to claim...

Luna M. Rose masterfully lays the groundwork for our main heroine's journey in this captivating tale. The story opens with Evelyn, our Lonewolf, who has spent the past few years among humans after escaping her abusive Alpha and a pack that turned a blind eye to his cruelty. With trust issues stemming from her past, she feels skittish around other wolf shifters.

When she receives a phone call from her best friend's brother, informing her that her beloved friend has mysteriously vanished—and that she is not the first—Evelyn is compelled to return home in search of her. However, she faces a daunting challenge: she cannot show her face to her own pack and is determined to find her friend quickly so she can flee back to her new life.

Complicating matters, Evelyn finds herself bonded to Rowan, the rival Alpha of her pack. This unexpected connection prompts Rowan to offer his assistance, along with the support of his own pack, to help Evelyn locate her missing friend and the other disappeared wolf shifters. Together, they also prepare to confront her abusive Alpha, Nathan.

As they delve deeper into their investigation, Rowan strives to prove to Evelyn that not all Alphas are controlling and abusive. Over time, Evelyn learns to lower her defenses and rely not only on Rowan but also on his pack. Their collective efforts lead to the revelation of the puppet responsible for the disappearances, although they ultimately fall short of uncovering the puppet master behind it all in this installment.
